I had already written a draft of this week’s blog when I opened an email from my former Writer’s Workshop classmate and friend, Mark Hancock. He said he had seen a cool street sign by the I-90 Island Crest off ramp for Mercer Island, WA.
He did a little digging and found that the group, Nasty Women Get Shit Done (NWGSD) was formed about a year ago in Portland, OR, to resist the current administration. Since then, they have raised $84,000 by selling these yard signs. They have used these funds to support numerous community causes and organizations that are being attacked by 45 and his corrupt crew.
Mark followed up with another email and said, “This is the perfect example of when folks say—What can I do, I feel so helpless? They took personal action beyond voting/emails/petitions, and are walking the talk. Really a great way to positively take one’s priorities and “resist” by getting involved in the community (and getting the community involved). I also like how they say “We strive to listen and learn” – That is rare and special.” I agree.
I checked out their site and applaud them for adopting a creative way to stand strong against sexism, racism, misogyny, domestic violence and every other “cancer” that is threatening to destroy us
Thanks, Mark, for sharing another “sign” that reinforced why we must continue to resist. In order to make it easier and quicker to connect with the legislators who represent me, I added the following Congressional representatives to my cell phone’s contact list:
Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), (202) 224-2621, (206) 553-5545;
Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA), (202) 224-3441, (206) 220-6400; and
Representative Pramila Jayapal (D-WA, 7th District), (202) 225-3106, (206) 553-7170.
