“During days like these it’s always good and necessary to take time out to rejuvenate your mind and soul,” said Dr. Avon Lorraine Burns, my childhood friend, before we boarded the NCL Pearl at the Port of New Orleans. There’s no better way to do that than spending time with great friends on a Caribbean cruise to Cozumel, MX; Roatan, Honduras; Harvest Caye, Belize; and Costa Maya, MX.
However, I’d be remiss if I didn’t give a thank-you shout out to “our” children who orchestrated the March for Our Lives across the country on 3/24/18. I am so proud of them, and I really appreciate them for recognizing that gun violence in underserved communities has not received the extensive media attention it has in privileged communities. And they “burned” the politicians who refuse to act because they are “owned” by the National Rifle Association (NRA). I would hate to be on the wrong side of history, knowing that these children will shape our democracy when they can vote.
We owe them a great debt of gratitude for raising their voices, loud and clear, to demand common sense gun laws.
